Folk art embroidery + 1950’s sheath = Obsessed with this Dress

Discovered this treasure of a dress at the well known Melrose Trading Post  market. It runs every Sunday, so if you are in the area it is definitely worth going to. Started shopping right when they opened. Gets crowded by 2:00 pm. Found this from a lovely lady at Makara’s Vintage & Collectibles, looks like she may have a store front as well.

I have always been drawn to any type of hand done work. My family being from Eastern Europe always had gorgeous embroidered items around. My Grandmother worked on pillow cases for hours. This Ayres Unlimited knit dress caught my eye because of the embroidery. Beautiful pastel flowers with yellow, pink squares and blue edging. I know many embroidery specialists are cringing at my lack of correct terminology, sorry for that..please feel free to comment, so i can learn.. Anyway it is sewn to make a folk art looking ribbon. This embroidered ribbon is sewn on the mock turtle neck, waist and running down the front of the skirt. The dress is a beautiful ivory color. Complete with a Talon Zipper! There is also a black International Ladies Garment Workers Union Tag, that was in use from 1955-63. I often wonder if these items could talk what stories they would have to tell. I image early afternoon cocktails… Cheers
